Member Handbook

From The LNR Book of Knowledge

(Redirected from New Member Guide)

This is a guide for new members to help get started and learn the ropes. It also serves as a handbook for all members.

This guide is being created from a lot of separate threads across the site and putting them in one place hopefully will make things a lot easier. Links have been placed to the original discussions regarding the information.

Information about Legend of a New Republic

Cornerstone

Below are our two most important documents. These have evolved over time as needed. Everyone is welcome to suggest new changes. Proposals that are popular are voted upon by the Exec Committee and finally adopted.

Mission and Vision Statement

Overall Charter for all games

Questions

Anyone (that means you) can start a new thread in our public forums by clicking here to ask any questions, or let us know you would like to join.

Website

The website is where we discuss what's going on or just hang out. All members are expected to register here and become Bronze members.

Membership

Official LNR Recruitment Policy

All of our Chapters have an Open Door Policy.

No silly questions, nominations, or other useless ways of trying to determine who is a quality member prior to entry. We have a quality Guild and expect all of our members to act accordingly. Our Mission sets the tone and our Charter set the rules for everyone to follow and help enforce. People who don't measure up usually leave on their own. Others will be removed as needed.

For discussion, please use this thread.

You, Not your character is a member

We recruit the person - not the toon or your character. The same goes with ranks and promotions. If your main character is Gold rank, all of your toons are Gold rank. The same goes for all games too. If you are Gold, you are Gold across all games.

You earn your rank by time in the guild - not time in a game.

For discussion on this topic, see this thread.

How to get your first promotion

When you join, you are considered a "Green Rank Member". It is easy to get your first promotion to Bronze. Hopefully, you continue to participate actively in the guild and soon wear the Silver, Gold or even Platinum rank on your sleeve.

The process to get promoted is easy and is slightly different for each game.

LNR Forum Group Types

Access to each game forum is limited to those who play the game and are members of that Guild Chapter and are managed by the groups they join.

Here is more information about user groups. I'll incorporate the info there into this page soon (unless someone else takes care of it).

All group and promotion requests are performed on this page

Unregistered Guests

Visitors / people who aren't logged in are welcome to reply to existing threads in the Public Information and News forum and post new threads in the Welcome - Guests Post Here! forum as well as the Leadership Open Door forum. However, since you are a guest, you will not be able to see any replies or get feedback on any posts in the Leadership Open Door forum as these are confidential and we can't tell who you are!

Registered User

Registered Users have all the rights of visitors but can receive feedback on Leadership Open Door threads/posts. Your title will be "Registered Guest".

+ Chapter Member

If you are in one of our Guild Chapters, you will also need to gain access to the group. This gives you a "Green Member" rank title. Check with your Guild chapter to start earning your ranks.

Guild Rank Badges

Make sure you also request to join all the ranks you have earned. The rank rewards are not cumulative, so request each rank level. Requests must be done one at a time. Make sure that you are identified as the highest rank you have earned! This shows underneath your name! Everyone should be at least bronze!!!

To identify yourself as the highest rank you have earned, simply click on any of the "Submit promotion request" links in the Guild Chapter menus. Then scroll all the way to the bottom and choose "Identify me as a member of this group" next to the highest rank you have earned.

Former Legend Member

Former Legend Members have access to the general Legend member forums in addition to the permissions of "Registered Guests". This is for folks who left but are still welcome to participate in our general member forums. Approval by one of the Executive Council Members is required to join this group.

Post your welcome thread

Here is our welcome thread area... We would love to know more about you! start your own and tell us about yourself!

Signatures & Avatars

Signature limits are 450 x 120 and 50kb in size. That's pretty big - but most of us have highspeed connections. There is an option in your control panel to turn them off if you do not want to see them.

Avatars are smaller and you can choose from the available options or upload your own (if you are high enough rank).

Get Guild Awards

There are several awards available for members to receive. There are a few available. For more information, review this page.

Current awards:

Mentor award

This award is for a member providing outstanding help and support to another member. This award is nominated by anyone to any bronze or higher member. Upon three nominations, the member earns this award.

Community Excellence Award

This award is for a member demonstrating outstanding help and support to someone outside of LNR. This is a tough one to get three nominations for, but at that time the member earns this award.

Special Forces Excellence

This award is for a member demonstrating outstanding PVP performance. This award is nominated by anyone to any bronze or higher member. Upon three nominations, the member earns this award.

Fight Night Champion

This award is presented to the top performer in a scheduled LNR PVP tournament event. The winner(s) are determined by the Judges.

Recruitment Medal of Excellence

This award is presented to a member who has invited five new members to the guild who each have become bronze members.

Ambassador Award

This award is presented to a member who has fulfilled one of the following requirements:

  • Invited two new members to the guild who each have become bronze members
  • Successfully led a guild event where many guild members have participated (ideally posted in advance on the website to be as open and inclusive as possible)

Get Promoted

To recognize Guild member's participation and length of service, the SWG Officers developed over time a rank and reward system. The basic framework is now being rolled out to all games so that everyone can earn their ranks!!

We recruit the person - not the toon. The same goes with ranks and promotions. That's why if your main character is Gold rank, all of your toons are Gold rank. The same goes for all games too.

You earn your rank by time in the guild - not time in a game.

There will be additions to the ranks that will be game specific, but all games will have this core requirements. As stated before, we recruit the person, not the toon - so you continue to earn your rank if you switch from game to game. Your length of service is how long you are an overall Legend member.

Here is the Official Ranks Guide

Become an Officer

Once you are Silver status, you qualify for being an Officer in LNR (unless it is a new LNR Chapter). You can help lead Events, Resources, or even assist in Recruiting efforts. The Officers are taking time out of the game to help LNR reach its full potential. There is no pay, but the best reward is the satisfaction from the results. You also get access to the Chapter Director forums as well as the Officer Roundtable forums.

We have three Officer ranks:

  • Director/Officer (chosen by the Co-Leaders)
  • Co-Leader (elected by the Guild and lead a specific game)
  • Executive Council Member (elected by Guild and lead LNR overall)

Expectations of an Officer

  • Enforce The Charter
  • Regularly active and posting on the LNR forums
  • Active on Ventrilo as able
  • Help lead and support your fellow Directors, Co-Leaders and Executive Council members

Become a Director - Help Lead LNR

If you are interested in becoming a an Officer/Director, just simply ask the Co-Leader to join the officer team. Directors (or Directing Officers) have proven themselves as leaders before being promoted. They have proactively asked a Co-Leader on where the guild could use help and helped out where needed. They typically have run events, helped recruit, assisted new members, and possibly more.

He/She may ask that you become more active, post more in the official or the LNR forums, or recruit more members prior to you being accepted. Director positions are not elected positions.

Become a Co-Leader - Help Shape LNR

You can also help shape the future of LNR by becoming a Co-Leader. You are expected to step up and make an impact to the Guild. Co-Leaders are elected positions. Below is the process we use to promote members into Co-Leader positions. This process can and will change as necessary (however, not during elections).

Official Legend Guild Election Process

As positions become available in the Co-Leader ranks, here is the process we use to promote new Co-Leaders.

  • An Executive Council Member (ECM) will post on the home page that the position is available
    • Entries should be accepted for a week to ten days
    • The announcement will include:
        • The list of requirements to enter the election as a candidate
        • The time line of the election
        • How to enter the race
        • Election rules
  • Once the deadline for entries has passed
    • ECM will send out an email to all those who entered informing when and how they will be communicated the results within a day or two
    • The poll is opened
    • Announcement on home page is made along with link to prior announcement
    • The voting should be open for a week to ten days
    • Votes are confidential between voters and the EC
  • Once the deadline for voting has passed
    • EC will count the votes
    • Notify those who ran (requesting confidentiality until the results are announced)
  • One day after the candidates are notified (or all nominees confirm notification) an ECM will announce who was promoted
  • Access to Co-Leader forums, and in game and website guild management functions are turned on/over to winning candidate

Only those who are in the Chapter and the Executive Council may vote for the Co-Leaders of a Chapter. The same process will be used for Executive Council Members, but everyone who is a Legend member will be able to vote. The requirements for qualifying for a Exec seat are still under discussion and have not been ironed out yet.

For discussion on this topic, see this thread.

Become an Executive Council Member

When a spot becomes open on the Council, elections will open for it. Only current Co-Leaders will qualify for the elections as they have already proven themselves as strong leaders in the Guild. The elections will follow the same format as the Co-Leadership positions.

Start a New Chapter

[This process may undergo some changes via a new proposal still being written but is still using the process below]

Chapters are now created by members. The process is now designed to only allow strong chapters to become "official chapters". To make requests for a new chapter or a promotion of a chapter, you must post the request in this forum. The rules below are not a 'hard and fast' set of rules, but rather guidelines as we adjust this process every time as we open new chapters in new games. Each time we get a little better at this process.

Alpha Chapter Status

Any member in good standing can start a new chapter. A new channel will be added in ‘other games’ area (upon request). This will be known as an ‘Alpha Chapter’. All members are considered Acting Officers who register on the website. You do not get Officer status without registering.

Beta Chapter Status

When you have ten members who are registered on the website interested in a new chapter, any of the members can request it be promoted to a ‘Beta Chapter’. The request must be signed by ten members who are playing the game and support the new chapter. Beta Chapters will have a private Acting Chapter Officer area created. Any member registered on the site, plays the game, and has Ambassador status, is welcome to join the Acting Officer Team. Everyone helps out being an officer: Recruiting, Events, Crafter support, managing the roster, and enforcing the General Chapter. Former Co-Leads and Executive Council Members can serve as Acting Co-Leaders until elections happen. These elections should take place around six months after the beta status is approved so an official leadership team is made and also allow time for new members to prove themselves as officers.

Official Chapter Status

Once the Chapter hits twenty members, a petition can be made to upgrade to a full blown chapter. Full blown Chapters have the roster system, user group, private forums area, and more. Any of the Acting Chapter Officers can make the petition, but twenty members must sign it for the Chapter to be upgraded. Two Co-Leaders will be elected and a third will be elected later when the two Co-Leads and the Exec team agree. From there, the new Co-Leads will promote two directors when ready and three later when it makes sense.

For discussion on this topic, see this thread.
